Lovers Key State Park and Beach has been rated as one of the top beaches in the U.S. by some magazines in the past. It is located just south of Ft. Myers Beach and can be reached by driving over the Big Carlos Pass bridge or from the south from Bonita Beach Rd. It has just over 1 mile of beach front where you can walk end to end and see New Pass to the south or Big Carlos Pass to the north. It is going through a beach re-nourishment project right now because the erosion due to wind, wave currents and winter storms. I love the water because of its clear and clean color and absence of the murky color you see at some beaches. The park has a tram that will take you from the parking lot and drive you about a 1/ 2 mile to the beachfront. On the way you will see the back bays and mangroves that make up most of the park. A lot of people go to the park to walk the trails and take pictures of birds, wildflowers and other wildlife. Fishing and bicycling is also popular. There is also a place to rent kayaks. Visit the parks website to learn more about the park. You can also see visitor reviews and great pictures of the park and beach at Trip Advisors website. Bathroom facilities and outdoor freshwater showers are available.
